Avengers: Endgame Review / SPOILERS

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

I'm glad that, other than my sister, no one sat beside me because, in usual Chloe fashion, I sobbed through the entirety of Endgame because gee, it was one heck of a movie.

Hello, welcome back to my blog! If you've wondered where I've been (you probably haven't but I don't care), I've basically been zapped of my motivation for writing anything, which isn't an excuse but it's my best one, so, leave me alone.

Anyway, today I went and saw my most anticipated film of 2019; Avengers: Endgame, and booooooyyyy did it deliver. I'm so insanely impressed by this film, I loved every single minute of it; it was epic. Literally, I come up a little speechless when thinking about how to describe it?! Anyway, it was awesome and I wanted to write a review because I "wrote one" for Infinity War so, why not follow the pattern?

Non-Spoiler Review:

My Spoiler-y Review:

Disclaimer: This review is more like a word vomit, I can guarantee half of this will not make sense but, you know it's not going to get much better than this. Also: THIS WILL HAVE SPOILERS, if you haven't already spied my pretty infinity stone coloured spoiler banner, this is your reminder. I wanted to make this spoiler-free but then I really wouldn't have anything to discuss so please, please, please, please don't read it if you haven't seen it yet because I would not want to spoil this epic movie for you!!!! Thanks!!!!

"Whatever it takes."

Okay, as usual, in case you've forgotten, or god-forbid, you have no idea; Avengers: Endgame is a 22-film project that has been built up to for ten years. It begins straight after, or soon enough after, the devastating finger snap from the previous film that wiped out half of the world's population. After another shattering loss by the Avengers against Thanos, five years pass, they are trying to move on, until a shred of hope is found and the remaining Avengers assemble (ha ha ha) and undergo a crazy infinity stone scavenger hunt across time. Obviously, a lot more goes down but you probably already know that stuff and do I really need to recap the whole movie? All jokes aside, the plot was crazy. I had no idea what to expect next, even when I thought I did, Marvel pulled a fast one on me and went in a completely different direction. In saying this, it absolutely payed off; perfectly balancing the over-arching storylines and the huge characters they had in this movie! Some of my favourites parts: seeing Loki (my absolute fav) during those time travel scenes, the final funeral scene where we see all the characters in their respectful groups (and that strange kid????? edit: apparently he's from Iron Man 3) and THAT FINAL BATTLE SCENE AGAINST THANOS???!!!!!!! Cap wielding the Hammer? Yes! Doctor Strange magically appearing with everyone? Yes! Captain Marvel being backed up by all the female heroes? BIG YES! So many favourite parts of this film they were just some that I can think of at this moment.

I love how much development there has been in each character since they first appeared till now. Tony Stark has? a? child? Cap hosts a support group? Thor went fat??? (you know you really must love Thor/Christ Hemsworth when you're still low-key VERY low-key attracted to him despite the beer bod/disgusting hipster beard and man boobs) Captain Marvel has short hair??? Anyway, lot's has changed but not how I feel about this characters, that's for sure. Honestly, I'm so attached to this phase of heroes that I don't want to say goodbye! Give me more Thor, more Ironman or y'know, a decent Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo as Hulk because every other actor that has played Hulk has been hopeless, and, Mark Ruffalo is so funny guys!!!

Did I expect more characters to die? yes. Was I happy there were only two major deaths? yes but, not those characters. Honestly, I was hyping myself up this past year thinking Cap was going to die; heck, I was believing that for majority of the movie seeing as though Stark ended up having a child?? How unfair!!??? (not the only Stark to die this month, ha ha get it). That scene was very emotional, I've never been the biggest Iron Man fan, he's good but not great, but my GOODNESS, i cried a heck ton during the scene, ESPECIALLY, when Peter Parker and Pepper were crying over his dead body. My lil heart could not help it. You know what else made me cry like a baby? Black Widow's death. A great character in the MCU, one of my favourites, just gone. Right were I lost my other favourite, Gamora!!!! I'm sorry Marvel but that really is not fair!

Do we want to talk about my cry count? I cried around seven times more or less? Some happy tears, some of pure sadness, some was just because. Being my typical self, I spent most of the film crying because that's what I do best. No seriously, I cry all the time so it's nothing new new but I think I surpassed my movie cry count haha. Endgame really did hit me right in the feels. Was I absolutely wrecked by the ending, heck yes. Captain America living out his dream of a normal life with the LOVE OF HIS LIFE gave me life. I'm so happy for them. Was I hella sad when Gamora didn't recognise Quill? yes, I loved them. Anyway, the point is this movie made me feel all the emotions and all that emotion reduced me to tears because that's what usually happens.

One last thing I feel like is worth mentioning is the how Marvel has cracked the greatest secret in the world of cinema. How to balance comedy with seriousness. They do this so very well and it's very much appreciated in a film such as this. Hulk "smashing" things, Thor's existential crisis and the reappearance of my fav Korg (did anyone else notice how Korg wears the same clothes that the actor, the director of Ragnarok, wears in real life??) was among my favourite comedic flourishes.

Anyway, that's all the babble I have for you today, does this "review" actually make any sense??? I'll be going back to theorising about the next episode of Thrones, getting hyped about Taylor Swift's newest reveal coming this weekend and stressing out about going back to school come Monday! And also rereading Harry Potter so I can review the series! Whooooo content!!!!! Okay, that's enough,

Chloe xx
